A huge congratulations is in order for our Joint Managing Director, David Antonelli, as September saw him complete an astounding 981 mile bike ride from Land’s End to John O’Groats as part of the Ride Across Britain Challenge, to raise money for Prostate Cancer UK.
Spanning nine days, the ‘end to end’ challenge of cycling from the most Southern point of the UK to the most Northern is a course even older than the Tour de France. The breath-taking views that riders experience along the way make it a truly iconic route.
The route itself takes riders 981 miles, climbing the equivalent of 57,1320 ft (that’s twice the height of Everest) and, of course, braving the great British weather camping overnight. As you would imagine, the challenge is a wonderful opportunity to raise money for charity. That is precisely what David Antonelli did, raising money for Prostate Cancer UK.
This is a cause that David holds close to his heart, having been diagnosed with prostate cancer in 2018 and undergoing treatment in December 2020. He had entered to take part in the challenge back in 2020 until COVID forced it to be cancelled, and unfortunately the following year David was undergoing treatment. But 2022 was definitely David’s year, having successfully cycled the length of the UK and raised an outstanding £6,200 for this wonderful charity.
When asked about taking part in the challenge, David said: “The hardest part of the entire challenge was the sleeping, or should I say lack of sleeping, each night. I am very proud to have completed the cycle that has been years in the planning, and made some great friends along the way.”
There’s still time to donate! If you would like to help raise funds for this wonderful cause, please visit David’s JustGiving page.
